A bearded dragon diet that is well done and designed will make your bearded dragon stay healthier and live longer. Your pet will be as healthy as the quality of the food it eats. So you want to make sure you're feeding it with quality food.
First of all, you should give your bearded dragon a dark green leafy vegetable salad every day. You should also cut them in small pieces, so it can eat them more easily - this is mostly important for young ones.
Water is optional, but it doesn't hurt to leave your lizard a little bowl of water. If you're going to do that, make sure that the water is clean. The best thing you can do is to change it every once in a while - every three days for example. That way, you'll never have dirty water.
What I've told you so far is just normal information that should be used in ever bearded dragon diet. There is more important information still to come. If you really love and value your pet I'm sure you'll want to know this. This is what really matters to make your pet the healthiest it can be.
Insects. Vegetables are a simple to handle issue. But a lot of people give wrong insects to their bearded dragon as part of the diet. Making the bearded dragon diet something that isn't going to help that much.
I'm going to talk about crickets first. People choose those just because they're the cheapest out there. Not knowing that those crickets have more cons than pros. Look:
They may be cheap, but it isn't worth it. For a little more you can get insects of way better quality. Another error to make is to buy...
Worms. Those are also used to feed bearded dragons when following almost every bearded dragon diet out there. Bad thing. Want to know why? They can KILL your pet. If your lizard is young, there are chances of super worms and meal worms causing the death of your bearded dragon. That happens because they can make your pet get an impaction (blockage) caused by the worm's shell, which is hard to digest. You shouldn't give worms to your young dragons at all.
A much better option is...
Roaches. A roach is the best type of insect/food you can give to your pet. If you want to have a very good bearded dragon diet, you want to make sure you include roaches in it.
The reason why is because they're more nutritional - roaches are from five to seven times more nutritional than crickets are; they'll also live longer, a roach can live up to 18 months (one and a half years) if you give it water and food. And there are all sort of reasons that makes roaches much better than everything else, here are some:
