What to feed a beardie

A young bearded dragon will eat about 80% insect and 20% greens.

Insects

  • Roaches
  • Silkworms
  • Hornworms
  • Crickets

Never feed a young bearded dragon super worms, mealworms, wax worms or butter worms. Super worms and mealworms can cause impactions in smaller dragons. Wax worms and butter worms are very fatty and can cause many problems.

Greens

  • Alfalfa
  • Cactus Pad/Leaf (Raw)
  • Cactus Pear (Prickly Pear)
  • Collard Greens
  • Dandelion Greens
  • Endive
  • Escarole
  • Mustard greens
  • Squash
  • Turnip Greens
  • Blueberries
  • Cabbage
  • Grapes

As bearded dragons age they tend to eat less protein and more greens. About 20% insects and 80% greens. If your bearded dragon is over 16” supersworms should be fine to feed. Feed a few and see if any undigested pieces are left over in its poop. Feeder sparingly until you know everything is being digested fine.
